misnomer and other myths

Lightroom - or any technology that may or not remain with us in the future.  My concern is that, that the nice technology that we buy into, spend a lot of time getting to know, might, just go away.  I'd guess in the long run, it's the media that counts - saving all this stuff in some sort of standard form, for use on the latest tool.  RAW is a nice example of an attempt at unprocessed data preserved in an archival 'state'.  But, even RAW (raw image format wiki) may even be a future misnomer as standards are applied, and boiled down to the next standard.
